Pastor Jon VanderWier

Senior Pastor

Pastor Jon VanderWier came to faith in Jesus Christ at the age of twelve and later answered God's call to full-time ministry. Throughout his years of service, he has ministered in a variety of pastoral roles, including youth, senior, and senior adult ministry. Since 2012, he has faithfully served as Senior Pastor of Big Springs Community Church. He and his wife are grateful for God's blessings through their three adult children and seven grandchildren.

Our History

In 1837, just twenty-five years after Indiana became a state, a mission effort was launched to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the people of Boone County. A circuit-riding preacher was sent to Big Springs and the surrounding communities of Eagletown, Hortonville, Jolietville, and Thorntown, faithfully sharing the message of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. Through these early ministry efforts, Big Springs became home to what is believed to be Boone County's first denominational church.
The congregation quickly became a vital part of the local community. Farmers and families joined together to donate logs and labor for the construction of the church's first building. Their commitment to establishing a place where God's Word could be preached laid the foundation for generations of worship, fellowship, and Gospel ministry.
As the church continued to grow, the need for additional space led to the construction of our current sanctuary in 1865. Over the years, the building has been expanded and updated to meet the changing needs of the congregation while preserving its rich heritage. Each addition stands as a testimony to God's faithfulness and the dedication of those who have called Big Springs Community Church their church home.
Today, we remain committed to the same mission that inspired our founding nearly two centuries ago: sharing the hope of Jesus Christ with our community and beyond.
